The Ghorepani-Poon Hill trek or the Annapurna Sunrise View trek is a short trekking adventure in the Annapurna region in Nepal. Embarking on this adventure allows tekkers to witness one of the most stunning sunrises, lighting up the majestic panorama of the mountains in the Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna range, from one of the best and the very popular lookouts in the Annapurna region,that is, Poon Hill. Moreover, apart from the breathtaking mountain views, this short trek in the Annapurna region also offers a chance to experience diverse landscapes and unique cultural experiences. The highest you will go on this trek is Poon Hill, which is located at an elevation of 3,210 meters. Thus, this trek offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural immersion and stunning mountain vistas, making it a perfect trek for trekkers looking to experience the essence of the Himalayas without having to embark on extreme challenges.
Our 6 days Ghorepani-Poon Hill trek is a moderate type hiking journey that is suitable for novice trekkers, senior citizens, students, family vacationers as well as trekking enthusiasts with moderate fitness level. Its duration also makes it a very perfect choice for trekkers bound by time and for those looking for a short trekking vacation in Nepal. The ideal time for this trek is March to May and October to December as during this time the weather is stable and views are clear. If cold weather is not an issue, this trek can also be done in winter (January and February).
This Ghorepani-Poon Hill hiking trip starts with trekkers’ arrival in Kathmandu. To begin the trek, trekkers will drive first to Pokhara and then to Ulleri. From Ulleri the ultimate walk to Ghorepani , the gateway to Poon Hill begins through the beautiful forest of Rhododendron, Oak and Pine. From Ghorepani, trekkers will make the final ascent to Poon Hill to enjoy the staggering mountain vista at sunrise and hike back to Ulleri to catch a transportation back to Pokhara. Trekkers will then drive back to Kathmandu to end the trip. On this 5 nights 6 days itinerary, 2 nights will be spent in Kathmandu, 2 Nights in Pokhara and 1 Night in Ghorepani.
Trekkers who are already in Pokhara can also choose to join the group or start the trek from Pokhara.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu Your Ghorepani-Poon Hill Trek will begin with your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal. One of the company representatives, awaiting your arrival at the airport will meet and greet you and help you transfer to the hotel booked for you in Kathmandu. After a short hotel check in formalities, freshen up and take a short rest. In the afternoon/evening, a company representative will meet you at the hotel for a trip briefing. After the meeting, your trekking guide will also be formally introduced to you, who will check your trekking gears. The time after the meeting can be spent at leisure.
Day 02: Drive to Pokhara (200 kms) Today you will drive to another very popular tourist destination in the country, Pokhara. Located roughly 200 kilometers west of Kathmandu, Pokhara is also a gateway to most of the treks in the fAnnapurna region. The drive to Pokhara today is on a luxury tourist bus that leaves Kathmandu for Pokhara at 7:00am. Your guide will help you transfer from your hotel to the bus station before 7:00 am. Carrying packed breakfast, you will start your journey, exiting Kathmandu from its western end. Soon after exiting the valley you will continue west on the Prithvi highway, that makes its way through the heart of the hills. This highway connects Kathmandu and Pokhara. For approximately 50 kilometers, this highway also runs along the Trisuli River. It's a very scenic drive on which you can treat your eyes to very picturesque views of green hills, mountains, streams, terraced farms and small settlements of people. The highway also has quite a number of motels, lodges and restaurants that serve the food and accommodation needs of the travelers. Your bus will stop for lunch and a few toilet breaks somewhere along the highway. Provided that the road condition is good and not affected by any natural disaster, construction or the highway traffic, you will reach Pokhara in 6-7 hours. The tourist bus will drop you at the tourist bus station in Pokhara. From here, your guide will transfer you to the hotel booked for you in Pokhara. Check into the hotel and spend the remaining time at leisure. You can go for a boat ride or simply a stroll around the lakeside in the evening. Overnight in a hotel in Pokhara. Meals: Breakfast
Day 03: Drive to Ulleri (1960m/6430ft),(4h) and trek to Ghorepani (2860m/9,383ft),(7km),(4h) Wake up to the stunning view of Machhapuchhre, relish the delicious breakfast and get ready for the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. Ulleri, the trailhead of this trek is roughly 4 hours drive west from Pokhara. Thus, leaving the vibrant town of Pokhara, meandering through the lush green valley, enchanting rural landscape and enjoying some of the grandest views of the Annapurna peaks, you will drive to Ulleri in a jeep. The drive from Pokhara to Nayapul is on Pokhara-Beni road, which is black topped. From Nayapul, leaving the highway, you will first head north to Birethanti to complete ACAP entry formalities. After this, you will continue on a narrow off road to Ulleri. Despite the road condition, you will still enjoy the drive to Ulleri, as it offers a very admirable view of the mountains and the valley. Nature completely surrounds you. From Ulleri the hike to Ghorepani takes about 4-6 hours depending on your pace. Once in Ulleri you will take a short rest and put on your hiking boots, strap your bag on your shoulders and waist and get ready to hit the trail. Trek to Ghorepani from Ulleri is a very rewarding journey that takes about 4-6 hours, depending on your pace. Initially the walk is on a steeply ascending stone-steps trail and is quite challenging. The walk is on a well defined path where you will see and meet local people practicing their daily chores. As you gain altitude, the landscape starts to change from terraced fields to lush green Rhododendron, Oak and Pine forest. The hike through this section is more invigorating during spring as the colorful blooming rhododendrons add extra color and charm to the forest. The views of the Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre are unbelievable throughout the hike. There are a number of tea houses along the way where you will stop for a lunch break. While having lunch, you can enjoy the scenery and also interact with the locals to get insight into their lifestyle, culture and beliefs. After lunch you will continue to Ghorepani. In Ghorepani, you will check into the lodge for a warm meal and overnight stay. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 04: Hike to Poon Hill (3193m/10,475ft) and trek to Ulleri (1960m/6430ft),(2-3h) and drive to Pokhara Poon Hill is one of the best viewpoints in the entire Annapurna region to experience the mountain sunrise view and is the main attraction of this trek. Thus, you will start this day with a hike to Poon Hill. Depending on your pace, the hike to Poon Hill takes about 30-45 minutes. Therefore, you will start this trek one hour before sunrise. Wearing warm clothes and leaving Ghorepani you will start your hike, which initially is on a series of stone steps that leads you up through the forest of Rhododendron and Pine. Mostly it’s a steady uphill climb that gets steeper at times, but the well maintained stone steps make it a bit easier to climb. Feel the freshness in the air as you continue to the viewpoint at the Poon Hill. As you reach the viewpoint you will be greeted by a panoramic view of Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna range and the majestic view of the sun rising over these mountains. You will spend some time relishing the view and hike back to Ghorepani for breakfast, before starting your hike down to Ulleri. After a hearty breakfast, you will start your journey back to Ulleri. Enjoying the mountain views, lush forest and the rural landscape, you will hike all the way down to Ulleri, retracing your trail used the previous day. From Ulleri, you will drive to Pokhara. In Pokhara you will be transferred to the hotel booked for you. Check into the hotel and you can spend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in a hotel in Pokhara Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
Day 05: Drive to Kathmandu (200 kms) Breakfast at the hotel or carrying packed breakfast, you will be transferred to the tourist bus station to help you catch your bus to Kathmandu. Following the 200 kilometer long Prithvi Highway, the bus will bring you back to Kathmandu. If the road condition is good and not affected by highway traffic, you will reach Kathmandu in 6-7 hours. The bus will stop for lunch and a few toilet breaks along the highway. From the bus station in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to the hotel booked for you in Kathmandu. In the evening, one of the company representatives will meet you for feedback and farewell dinner. Overnight in a hotel in Kathmandu. Meals: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 06: Departure day Breakfast at the hotel and as per your airport reporting time, you will be transferred to the airport to help you catch your onward flight.
