Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of the most popular, moderate, and classic treks in Nepal and Short Annapurna Base Camp trek is the shorter version of this classic base camp trek. It’s the most direct route that leads you to the base camp located at the altitude of 4,130 meters above sea level, in the Annapurna Sanctuary. This base camp trek, surrounding you with 360 degrees, jaw-dropping panorama of Annapurna III (7,555m), Annapurna South (7,219m), Gangapurna (7,455m), Machhapuchare (6,993m), Baraha Shikhar / Annapurna Fang (7647m), Hiunchuli (6441m), and Singu Chuli (Fluted Peak) (6,501m), also allows you to stand face to face with the 10th highest mountain on earth, Annapurna I (8,091m).
This trek, starting Jhinu, takes you through the dense forest of Rhododendron, Oak, Cedar and Bamboo that starts around Chhomrong and continues till Deurali. However, the trek onwards from Deurali to the Annapurna Base Camp is above the treeline, in a more exposed area with only fewer trees and alpine meadows and the trail is rocky and barren and dotted with glacial streams, boulders and the distinct moraine formations left by old glaciers. . The view of Machhapuchhre dominates most parts of this Annapurna Base Camp trekking trail. However, apart from the views of the mountains, lush green forest, waterfalls, streams and other natural elements, this trek provides ample opportunity to delve into the lifestyle and rich culture of the inhabitants (especially Gurung people).
Adventure Mountain Explore Treks and Expedition’s 9 days Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek starts with your arrival in Kathmandu and ends with your departure from Kathmandu. You will spend 2 nights in Kathmandu, 2 nights in Pokhara and the remaining nights in the Annapurna region, trekking to and from the base camp. The trek starts with a drive to Jhinu from Pokhara. The trail will take you through Chhomrong, Sinuwa, Bamboo, Dovan, Himalaya, Deurali and the Machhapuchhre Base Camp to the base camp of Annapurna. The return trek is on the same trail. The average walking hour on this trek is 6-8 and the elevation gain each day is always below 1000 meters.
Hence, this trek is perfect for any physically fit trekker with limited time, but looking for a high-altitude base camp adventure.
If you are already in Pokhara you can also choose to join the group or start the trek from Pokhara.
The best time to enjoy this trek is March to May and October to early December. If you can stand cold weather, this trek can also be done from December to February, which makes it a perfect off-season Annapurna trek.
Moreover, if you are looking for an extended Annapurna Base Camp Trek, we highly recommend adding Ghorepani and Poon Hill to the itinerary and go for our 13 days Annapurna Base Camp Trek.
But, if you are looking for other short treks in the Annapurna region with great Himalaya Views in Nepal, we highly recommend Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, Mardi Himal Trek or a little longer Ghorepani Poon Hill with Ghandruk Trek.
