The Langtang Valley Trek is a beautiful and accessible trek in the Himalayan region of Nepal, located within Langtang National Park and is known for its stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife, and rich cultural heritage. Trekkers are often drawn to this region by the chance to spot rare animals like the snow leopard and red panda, as well as the beautiful views of Langtang Lirung and surrounding peaks. The trek provides a short but rewarding journey for those wanting to experience the Himalayas without the extended duration of more famous treks.
Langtang is believed to have earned its name from the myth that an ox, brought from Tibet during a marriage ceremony, was lost and later found in the region. In local language, "Lang" means ox and "Tang" means to follow or track. Hence, the name "Langtang" is derived from the story of the ox that wandered off and was eventually located in this area.This rich mythological background adds cultural depth to Langtang, complementing its stunning natural beauty, making it a significant destination for trekkers and those interested in local legends.
The trek typically lasts 10 - 11 days and begins with a long drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, the starting point. From there, the trail winds through lush forests, crossing rivers and passing through small villages like Lama Hotel and Langtang Village, before reaching the final destination, Kyanjin Gompa. Trekkers can enjoy day hikes to nearby glaciers, Tserko Ri, or explore the local cheese factory, which is supported by the Swiss government. After spending time at Kyanjin Gompa, trekkers return along the same trail, taking in more views of the mountains and valleys.
The Langtang Valley Trek is considered moderately challenging, making it suitable for both beginner trekkers and those with more experience. Although the highest point of the trek, Tserko Ri, reaches 4,984 meters, the trails are well-established, and no technical climbing skills are required. Trekkers will enjoy diverse scenery along the way, from subtropical forests and rhododendron groves to open alpine meadows and snow-capped peaks. The local Tamang people add a cultural element to the trek, offering a chance to learn about their traditions and Buddhist practices.
Costs for the Langtang Valley Trek vary based on the type of package, with most standard packages ranging from $900 to $1000 USD. These typically include accommodations, meals, permits, guide services, and transportation. Independent trekking can be more budget-friendly, but requires careful planning for food and lodging. Many trekking agencies offer customizable packages, allowing trekkers to choose between shorter or longer itineraries depending on their interests and time availability.
The best time to trek in Langtang Valley is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November).During these seasons, the weather is calm, the skies are clear, and the mountain views are breathtaking. Spring brings colorful rhododendron blooms, while autumn offers crisp air and clear landscapes after the monsoon rains. While winter trekking is possible, trekkers should be prepared for colder conditions and snow at higher elevations. Overall, the Langtang Valley Trek offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and adventure, making it one of the most rewarding treks in Nepal.

Day 11: Departure day
Day 1: Arrival day (1,300m/4,264 ft)
Upon arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuwan International Airport, we will greet you and assist you to the Hotel. We can meet later on that day or the next day (as per your convinient) to take you to our head office to brief you on your upcoming Trek with us. At that time we will introduce you to your trekking guideand Sherpa. If your flight arrives on time, we will take you to one of the most popular local restaurants with delicious Nepalese food, cultural music and ethnic dance. This will give you a glimpse into the different ethnic groups of the country. If you arrive late in the evening we can do this the next day.
Day 2: Kathmandu Valley sightseeing and trek preparation (1,300m/4,264 ft)
After breakfast, you will begin a city tour of Kathmandu where you will see the main attractions of the valley. On this tour you will visit the Boudhnath Stupa, Pashupatinath temple, Swyambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple), and Kathmandu Durbar Square (the old palace). After finishing the city tour, we will meet again to check your clothing and trekking equipment (sleeping bag, down jacket and trekking boots). This evening will be spent in Kathmandu.
Day 3: Drive to Syabrubesi. (1460m/4645ft) 9 hours
Our guide will meet you at the hotel as per departure time and takes you to the bus station where your journey starts towards north of Kathmandu through Pasang Lamu highway. The road is well paves till Trisuli bazzar and unpaved to Sybrubesi. You will enjoy the scenery on the way with is beautiful landscape and valley, farm terrace and village as well as snow peaked mountains. Finally you will reach to Shybrubesi. Stay overnight at the lodge.
Day 4: Trek to Lamahotel (2,455m/8,054ft) 5-6 hours
After breakfast at the lodge, the trail drops little down to the river to cross suspension bridge and short climb to the small village. Then cross another suspension bridge and walk along the Langtang khola. The trail continues climb up to the Lamahotel through the forest. On the way you will enjoy the views of waterfalls, forest and sounds of the river. Stay overnight at lodge.
Day 5: Trek to Langtang (3430m/12,253ft) 5-6 hours
Today your day starts walking through the forest along the river to get in to Ghoretabela. There are few tea shops on the way where you can have rest. After Ghoretabela, an easy walk for a while and climb to Langtang through the barren valley. Stay overnight at Langtang.
Day 6: Trek to Keynjing Gompa (3,870m/12,696ft) 3 hours
The trail leads uphill at the beginning after crossing the Langtang village and easy walk to the tea shop. Then the trail descends uphill to the ridge and drop down to the valley of Keynjing Gompa for overnight.
Day 7: Explore day
Today you have an option either walk up to the Tserko Ri or hike up to the Glacier. It also depends on your fitness condition. You shall discuss with your Guide regarding your health condition and interest so that he will suggest you accordingly. There is Yak Cheese factory which you should visit. There is very popular Gompa( Gompa is a place where people goes for meditation) nearby which is worth visit. Stay overnight at lodge.
Day 8: Trek to Lamahotel (2,455m/8,054ft) 7 hours
After breakfast at the lodge drop down to the Langtang village which is easy downhill. You will enjoy the views of Himalaya and valley. The trail continues drops down to Lamahotel for overnight.
Day 9: Trek to Sybrubesi (1460m/4645ft) 5-6 hours
The trail drops steep downhill towards riverside to cross the bridge and slightly down to Pairo where you can have a lunch. Then the trail climbs little up and down to the bank of the river. At the end cross suspension bridge to get to the Sybrubesi for overnight.
Day 10: Drive to Kathmandu. (1,300m/4,264 ft) 9 hours
Today, early morning bus drives to Kathmandu. Once you are at the Kathmandu, transfer to the hotel for relaxing. You can have lazy day at the hotel or you can do some city tour if you deserve. We will like to receive your valuable comments of the trip so that we will organize a dinner together by the time we will share experience. Stay overnight at the hotel.
Day 11: Departure day.
Today is the last day of the trip with us. If you would like to extend your holiday with us, we will help you if you require otherwise we will assist you to the airport as per your flight departure time. If your flight is late evening, you can do last minute shopping or manage your photos of the trip then final departure from the airport.
