The Everest Base Camp trek is an extremely popular and famous trail.People from all over the world comes here to be totally absorbed in this exotic corner of the world, to be placed in awe of the magnificent Mt Everest and its sibling mountain ranges. Trekking to Everest Base Camp takes you to the Base Camp (5,320m/17,450ft) of the highest mountain in the world- Mt. Everest (8,848m/29,021ft).

The Everest Base Camp trek is an incredible experience of lifetime, and is one of the most sought-after trekking destinations in the world. Everest region trekking is well known for its spectacular Himalayan scenery and the interesting cultures and lifestyles of its inhabitants (Sherpas), including their richest culture and tradition. In the mean time, you can explore Sherpa museums and famous Buddhist monasteries along the route. The trail gives you perfect views of beautiful peaks, Rocky Mountains, valleys and Sherpa villages, giving the trekker a glance into their daily life.

Mt. Everest Base Camp is a glacier moraine that does not offer views of Mount Everest itself, but has great views of the Khumbu ice fall and the surrounding mountains. Another highlight of trekking to Mount Everest is the hike to Kalapathar (Black Rock), which has the most dramatic view of Mt. Everest, Pumari, Nuptse, and many more peaks. It has breathtaking sights for tourists of the Khumbu Himalaya region; the views of the valleys and glaciers are spectacular. The Everest base camp hike begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and leads through to the Dudh Koshi valley through several Sherpa villages.

The powerfully spiritual prayer rocks and daunting suspension bridges are but a few of the numerous occasions you'll find yourself snapping pictures. Children in the local villages will often rush over to make you stop and say the classic Nepali greeting "Namaste". The beginning phase of the Everest walk is culturally beautiful and allows you to meet the local people; you will certainly experience their warm hospitality.

Special Notice: Due to unpredictable weather conditions in the Himalayas, there may be unforeseen schedule changes in domestic flights to Lukla and from Lukla. The flights may be delayed for several hours or pushed back by a day or more, depending on the circumstances. Although this is rare, it can happen even during the best trekking seasons. As you know, high altitude weather conditions can be difficult to predict. Therefore, we strongly suggest that you plan for this by allowing for an extra day or two in Nepal after your trek, if possible. This will help ensure that you have some flexibility with regard to your trek. On the other hand, if everything goes according to plan, you will have time to enjoy other activities such as rafting, wildlife viewing, shopping, or just relaxing after your adventure.

Everest Base Camp Trekking Information

Country Information:

Nepal is a land-locked country that lies between India and China. It is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of Biodiversity due to its unique geographical position and altitude variation. The elevation of the country ranges from 60 meters above sea level to the highest point of the world, Mt. Everest at 8,848 meters above sea level. Nepal is small country, but it has many interesting things to see. Nepal is the second richest country in the world in terms of water resources. We have beautiful Himalayan ranges in the north, along with many rivers beginning from the glacier of the Himalaya. Nepal has three major geographical ranges; the Himalayan region, the Hill region and the Terai lowland.

Nepal offers abundant potential to evolve as a year-round travel destination. Based on this fact, many international tourists are indeed incorporating Nepal as part of their preferred travel itinerary. Nepal is known for its beautiful and dramatic scenery. Passionate hikers and non-hikers alike are attracted to its mountains and foothills to view the Himalaya and the worlds highest peak. Many also discover the beauty of the forests and the enjoyment of time spent as a self-contained expedition, far from the rush of the bustling modern world in the delightful company of the trekking crew, as they tend to your needs and ensure your comfortability on your adventure. Guides in this region are physically strong, sharp-witted and have an incredibly positive attitude towards a lifestyle that many would consider extremely tough. There is something about trekking in the Himalaya that draws you back time and time and again. For keen hikers, it is a paradise, while non-hikers often find that one foot just seems to follow the other, drawn by the appeal of what lies beyond. Nepal's population of over 29 million people is an interesting blend of Hindu, Buddhist and animist religions. Nepal is a mosaic of cultures, ethnic groups and languages. Remarkably, there are over 100 different ethnic groups, with at least as many different languages. More than three million people live in Kathmandu Valley, but at least ninety percent of the population lives in the rural areas of the lower and middle hills of the Himalayan Range. Nepal is predominantly a simple rural society. Nepal has been declared a Federal Republic State on May 28th 2008.This historic development followed the first elections held since 1999 after a ceasefire agreement between the government and the Maoists, which was signed in November 2006, putting an end to 10 years of instability in the Kingdom. The announcement of the abolishment of the monarchy also brought an end to 240 years of royal rule in the country. Today, the general feeling amongst Nepalese people is a positive one, and many believe that Nepal is now finally moving forward with a new identity as a democratic nation with a fresh outlook. We as a people have hope for further progress.

Travel season:
There are two ideal seasons to trek in the Annapurna region. We suggest that you come at the right time of the year if possible. The best times for trekking are spring and autumn.

Spring: ( March, April, May) - Best and warmest time to trek. The rhododendron flowers, Nepal's national flower, is in bloom, and excellent trails are complimented by clear skies, providing great visibility. Good temperatures, warmest weather of the year.

Autumn: (Mid September, October and November) - Excellent trails are open, clear blue skies, great visibility.

Winter: (December, January and February) these months are also good, but it’s obviously colder this time of year. You must come prepared for this.

Summer: Monsoon season, meaning rain and visibility can be a big issue (from Mid June, July and August). We do not suggest you choose this time to visit Nepal, although ultimately the choice is yours. Nepal can be visited the whole year round.

Travel Insurance:
You should have travel insurance to ensure adequate protection in case of emergencies. A travel insurance policy covering cancellation, injury, death, lost baggage, theft, liability, medical treatment and expenses is strongly recommended. Make sure your insurance covers all the activities that you will be undertaking during your stay in Nepal. If a client becomes ill, all hospital expenses, doctors' fees and repatriation costs are the client's responsibility. If you are injured and unable to travel, you can ask for a rescue helicopter from a remote area only if you have definite proof that you can pay for it. A cash deposit is paid to the helicopter operator while the rest of the money is collected once you have been rescued. Be sure your policy specifically covers emergency helicopter transportation.

Health and Fitness:
We strongly recommend you consult the doctor before planning your holiday. You should obtain professional advice from a travel clinic or your local GP about which vaccinations to obtain before you arrive in Nepal. Your doctor will advise you on current inoculation requirements. If a doctor has recommended against travel or that the indicated travel may be inconvenient, then kindly inform us of these details. On all trekking and exploratory trips, technical experience is not required, hiking/camping experience is an advantage, but by far the most important thing is a positive attitude and a generous amount of determination. We run regular first aid courses for all of our trekking guides and Sherpa helpers.

Foods and Accommodation:
In Kathmandu we use a tourist-standard hotel to ensure a comfortable stay and relaxed environment before and after your adventure. All breakfasts are included at the hotel in Kathmandu. Rooms are generally shared with twin beds– depending on your group size and room availability, a room with three beds may be provided upon your request. A single supplement room is available at an additional cost for accommodation. The required expenses for the trek provide good quality food and services. For breakfast you can expect to have freshly prepared porridge, toast or chapattis, omelets and local bread with organic butter and jellies. We will provide all meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner along with tea & coffee) from the teahouse menu during the trekking period. Whilst trekking on Annapurna, the accommodation is in guesthouses or lodges which are basic and may have shared facilities. Some lodges offer showers and most also offer buckets of hot water up on request. During the trip, you can expect to have a hot shower on 2 occasions.

Our effort while you are on a trek:
While you are on a trek, there are not many communication facilities, so we would be happy to pass messages to your family and friends if required. Our guide will have a cell phone, and we remain in constant contact with them. Our every effort will be made to keep to the proposed itinerary, however as this is an adventure in a remote Himalayan region, the health of member, weather conditions, and other external factors can all contribute to changes the itinerary. The trek guide will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but please be prepared to be flexible if necessary. If you are delayed longer than the itinerary date, we can help reschedule your international flights, but prepare to pay some extra charge if required.
