The Gokyo Valley trek is the most popular trek in the Everest region after the Everest base camp trek. To put it simply, the Gokyo Valley trek is a much more calm trek since it is less busy and suited for those who want a peaceful adventure. You could think of the Gokyo Valley Trek as an alternative to the Everest Base Camp Trek. We are sure that although being an alternative, this trek still provides a unique experience by leading you to unbeaten and untrodden paths around the Everest region.

The Gokyo Valley trek offers a full grasp of local village life as well as breathtaking views of rivers, glaciers, mountains, and, obviously, the turquoise Gokyo Lakes itself. Moreover, trekkers get a one-of-a-kind chance to see the breathtaking 8000-meter Himalayan peaks, which include Mt. Everest, Lhote, Cho-Oyu, and Makalu, from a panoramic vantage point as they undertake the Gokyo valley trek. Also, you will be exploring the Ngozumpa Glacier which is the largest glacier in Nepal.

As more and more trekkers arrive in this region, the Gokyo Valley trek has emerged as one of the region's most popular trekking destinations. Particularly to do this trek, trekkers do not require previous trekking experience. Since this trek takes you to the maximum height of 5400 meters, the trek is only rated moderately difficult. Basically, you'll roughly spend 6-7 hours a day walking on this route which follows through valleys, high-altitude passes, and several ascents and descents. So for that reason, we advise you to prepare yourself to be in a good physical and mental condition before beginning this adventure.

Special Notice: Due to unpredictable weather conditions in the Himalayas there may be unforeseen schedule changes with domestic flights to Lukla and from Lukla. The flights may be delayed for several hours or pushed back by a day or more, depending on the circumstances. Although this is rare, it can happen even during the best trekking seasons. As you know, high-altitude weather conditions can be difficult to predict. Therefore, we strongly suggest that you plan for this by allowing for an extra day or two in Nepal after your trek, if possible. This will help ensure that you have some flexibility with regard to your trek. On the other hand, if everything goes according to plan, you will have time to enjoy other activities such as rafting, wildlife viewing, shopping, or just relaxing after your adventure.

Further on this day, you will also prepare your clothing and packing list for your Gokyo Valley trek. After relaxing for a bit and getting everything ready, we will go for the welcome meal at the best authentic Nepali restaurant in the evening. During this time, you'll have an amazing opportunity to meet your fellow trekkers and the trek leaders. Overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu. (Meals: Dinner)

Day 02: Kathmandu Valley sightseeing and trek preparation (1,300m/4,264 ft)

After enjoying an exquisite breakfast in the early morning at the hotel, we will get ready for the city trip. We will head on to the world-renowned sites in Kathmandu Valley. After briefly introducing your tour guide for the day, we'll start the Kathmandu sightseeing tour. The main destinations on this trip will be the UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Boudhanath, Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. You'll return to your hotel after completing a full-day tour of the valley. Once you arrive at the hotel, you may once again keep an eye out for items to add to your packing list. You can also look for any further preparations required for tomorrow's trek in accordance with the guide's suggestions. Overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu. (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 03: Fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding. (2,652m/8,700ft) 4-5 hrs walk

Since this is the first day of your Gokyo Valley trek, you will depart Kathmandu early in the morning for Lukla. We will transport you in a private vehicle to the domestic terminal of Tribhuvan International Airport to get ready for the flight. The exciting journey continues after you take a seat on a 30-minute flight to the Lukla Airport, where you can relax and enjoy the breathtaking Himalayan views. Meanwhile, when you land at the airport, helpers and porters will be there to greet you. We will go for breakfast in Lukla when you have finally arrived at the Lukla airport and have given them your luggage.

If Lukla's weather stays clear, you may start the day with breakfast and enjoy the view of the mountains. Further, you'll ascend to the lovely village of Lukla after having breakfast. We move on from Lukla towards the settlement of Chheplung, passing via the magnificent Dudh Koshi River. Shortly after, the stunning views of Kusum Kanguru and Kongde-RI Peak surround us as we travel towards the community of Ghat along the painted Mani walls, where we will eventually arrive in Phakding. The path leading to the Phakding village is beautifully marked by chortens, prayer stones, flags, and wheels. Overnight at a lodge in Phakding. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazzar. (3440m/11,283ft), 5-6 hrs walk

Our destination today is Namche Bazaar, a famous town in the Everest region. Our walk will initially follow the Dudh Koshi River, then rise through rhododendron and pine woods, providing a spectacular vista of Thamserku and Kusum Kanguru Mountains. As we advance, We enter the Sagarmatha National Park after having our trekking permits checked in Monjo. You will then keep going down the trail that gradually drops to the Dudh Koshi River bridge after entering the park. On your way to the Jorsale, you'll stop here for lunch.

Shortly after, you will climb upward toward Namche following lunch. With winding routes and suspension bridges, it's a challenging ascent. However, overcoming this obstacle will reward you with stunning views of Mount Everest, Mount Lhotse, Mount Kusum Khangru, and more with a lovely valley. Right after you reach Namche, you'll check into the lodge. While exploring the neighborhood, you may chill at the coffee shops or bakeries nearby. Overnight at a lodge in Namche Bazaar. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 05: Acclimatize day

We must spend a day in Namche to adapt before aiming to go to a higher altitude. To speed up the acclimatization process, you must stay active by going on brief treks around the region rather than having a nap. To complete this day of acclimatization we can trek Khunde and Khumjung, which are close to Namche Bazaar. This tour highlights the breathtaking mountain vistas, as well as the lovely monasteries and the holy chortens. If you don't want to do this excursion, you can choose to trek up to Hotel Everest View, the highest hotel in the world.

Here, you may have a delicious lunch while taking in the panoramic views of Mount Everest and other peaks. After doing one of these hikes, you'll head back to Namche. You may use the extra time after you arrive in Namche to visit the headquarters of the national park or the Monasteries around the area. Or you might just relax whilst browsing the internet at a café or restaurant in the town. Overnight at the lodge in Namche Bazaar. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 06: Trek to Dole. (4,200m/13,779ft)

Today we are leaving for Dole as soon as we complete our breakfast. The path will take us to Namche's Ridge, from where we can easily hike to Kyagjuma while taking in stunning views of peaks like Mount Everest, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and others. Soon after, the route drops into a pine and rhododendron-filled, forested region. We will soon be descending to the pine and rhododendron forests. After crossing the river and doing up and down the stone stairs, we will eventually reach the Mong village.

This settlement will serve as our lunch stop, and you can take in the views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and other nearby mountains. We next move on to the strenuous walk, which is upward walking, leading us to the Dole Village. Dole is a charming village with simple green meadows, stone walls, and excellent views of the Thamserku and Kangtega mountains. We'll stay here while we devour the meal that we've worked so hard for and a night of good sleep. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 07: Trek to Machherma. (4,470m/14,665), 5-6 hrs walk

The journey will become notably more difficult from this point on since you will have to pass through areas of dense forest and a few high-altitude settlements. Even though the trails are vacant and quiet, you can still discover some tea shops and take short rest along the way. The path continues to climb the valley's side until it reaches Machhermo, a small settlement in the Khumbu region.  The route keeps ascending up the valley's side until it reaches Machhermo, a little yet beautiful town in the Khumbu region. The village is surrounded by dazzling mountains, fields, and a few smaller settlements as it rests on a water stream. Overnight stay in a lodge at Machhermo.  (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 08: Trek to Gokyo (4,790m/15,715ft), 4 hrs walk

The vista of the lakes after which we have named this trek—the Gokyo Valley trek—will be revealed to us today. After an hour or so of trekking, we will pass through the yak fields and go in the direction of Phanga. We will gain height while traveling through this route as our path gets narrower and steeper. From this point on, the routes get difficult, with boulders and rocks covering the way. The trip will be difficult because you will be traveling ahead for at least an hour or more.

You will then soon arrive at Gokyo, which is high up on the eastern shore of Third Gokyo Lake. Only a short distance separates the village from the lake, which is situated below the Gokyo-Ri hill. When we get there, we'll pause briefly to have lunch and take a little stroll to admire the beauty of Gokyo village. We spend the night at a lodge in Gokyo. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 09: Explore day

We will hike Gokyo-Ri (5357m) after breakfast in Gokyo. You might require between one and a half and two hours to ascend to Gokyo-Ri starting from the west side of the Ngozumpa Glacier. You will be rewarded with beautiful views of the surrounding landscape as soon as we reach the top, where the peaks of Everest, Cho-Oyu, Lhotse, Cholatse, and Taboche can all be seen from a panoramic perspective.

Since no other location offers views of these magnificent mountains, we shall spend a lot of time here. After enjoying the scenery and capturing some excellent shots, we slowly return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, we'll take a little walk around the Ngozumpa glacier after lunch. Overnight at a lodge in Gokyo. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 10: Trek to Dole (4,200m/13,779ft), 4-5 hrs walk

We will descend from Gokyo and continue along the Dudh Koshi River's paths. Then, as we continue on our journey, we will pass through the Gokyo lakes and take in the stunning views of the Taboche and Cholatse peaks along the way. We will gradually come down to Machhermo. On this day, the walk will be fairly enjoyable and not too challenging. Even while going down in the same direction, you will experience a fresh perspective as you will get a view of the Cho Oyu, Kangtega, and Thaserku mountains from different perspectives. The settlements that you will pass through this day are Machhermo, Lhafarma, Luza, and finally Dole. Overnight at the lodge in Dole. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 11: Trek to Khumjung (3,580m/11,780ft), 5-6 hrs walk

The path today descends first via a rhododendron forest before climbing to the Mong La Danda. You will get to witness lots of animals in the rhododendron forest in addition to stunning vistas of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and several other peaks. The forest is home to a variety of wild animals, which includes Musk deer, pheasants, griffons, and wild goats. After passing through the forest, the route descends once again to Kyanjuma before ascending again to reach Khumjung, where you will rest for the night. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 12: Trek to Monju (2,850m/9,348ft), 6-7 hrs walk

We will pass via the Lunde Village on our morning hike today. Following breakfast in the morning, we'll go on a brief climb to the pristine Khumjung Valley, where we'll stop at the Sir Edmund Hillary-built Khunde Hospital and visit there for a while. We will then proceed on the path that brings us to Namche bazaar through the Syangboche Airstrip after exploring the Khumjung settlement. It is known as the highest airstrip in the entire world. After passing through the airstrip and soon arriving at the ridge, you will see the lovely Namche Bazaar where people are eating lunch. Following lunch, we will continue on to Monjo, where we spend the night. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 13: Trek to Lukla(2,652m/8,700ft) 4-5 hrs walk

After a filling breakfast at the lodge, we will descend down the hill, pass through the pine forest till we arrive at the bridge, and continue on our way to Lukla. Up until we get to Lukla, we will frequently cross suspension bridges. We will stop along the way to take a final look at prayer flags, prayer stones, rhododendron and pine woods, and Sherpa communities. Since today is the final day of our walk, we will relax once we get to Lukla and enjoy some time with our group. Stay overnight in a lodge at Lukla. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 14: Fly to Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264 ft)

After enjoying one last breakfast in Lukla Village, you will bid the Khumbu region goodbye. You have to get ready early on this particular day since you have an early flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. Soon after boarding the flight from Lukla to Kathmandu, a view of the Everest region's mountains will be seen from above. As soon as you arrive in Kathmandu you will feel refreshed again to see the lively streets of the city after spending so much time in the mountains.

After settling into the hotel, you may go shopping and look at some old Nepali artifacts in the market. We'll have a farewell meal later tonight. At this moment, we'll look back on our memorable experiences and ask for your insightful feedback on the trip. After having a delightful dinner, we'll transport you back to your hotel. Overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu. (Meals: Breakfast, & Dinner)
